he also has a steaming pot of tea and a small basket of what appear to be steamed buns under the napkin keeping them warm '-']

[he's not hiding the inside of the room; it doesn't look like he's personalized it in any way other than a scatter of papers and a couple of library books untidily heaped in a corner, and more bloody wards scrawled on the walls. the bed is unmade and there's an empty milkshake glass somewhere in there]

[rats; but being allowed into Wei Wuxian's room for the sake of having a solid surface to put the teapot on was always a long shot. they can head over there, then. there's still no coffee table, so they can balance the cups between them.]

[he doesn't thank him, but he does nod politely and make sure things are settled before reaching over to take a bun]

[all of the buns except secretly the first one Lan Wangji was careful to take before Wei Wuxian got fully settled are extremely spicy,

Lan Wangji makes sure the basket is easily reachable between them and applies himself to eating that one, slowly and quietly]

[what's more gay is that he cannot even slightly control how much his heart lifts at the sight of that. nurses his own bland version of the meal along patiently, feeling measurably brighter]
