but then... someone sits back on the bed, thigh warm against the fox's side, and starts gently petting his ears again, oh no]

[heaves a deep sigh and stretches out along that warmth, very relaxed and sleepy]

Lan Wangji keeps petting him for a bit, and then Wei Wuxian feels a gentle, familiar-unfamiliar tug on the fur between his ears, something that's not fingers pressing down...

(he's had his hair brushed by Lan Wangji before, but it's not exactly an expected experience, and only as a human.)]

[whines and wiggles away from it a little along the mattress...]

[pauses and doesn't move or chase after him with the brush, hand still on the back of his neck. softly:]

[slits an eye open and looks up at him, adorably considering]

[it's hard to see much in the dim light! Lan Wangji is frozen, waiting, not quite meeting his gaze; he hadn't thought it'd be something at all objectionable or he wouldn't have tried it...]

[whuffs a little, mostly a breath, and puts the tip of his nose on Lan Wangji's knee, shutting his eye again]

[there's another long, long pause

then the brush moves through his fur again, gentle and meticulous; one stroke, two...]

[his tails start thumping on the mattress...]

[good. this feels easier that way, somehow, after Wei Wuxian spent the night on his chest.

starts fixing the roughness of his fur in earnest, gentle and meticulous

he woke up for the day and brushed his own hair and then it boTHERED HIM]
